Movie

Tickets for the special presentations of the 16-minute footage for James Cameron's 3-D sci-fi actioner will be made available online starting Monday, August 17.

AceShowbiz - August 21 has been announced to be an "Avatar" day with fifteen minutes of the film being shown in theaters for free, but details on the free screenings have yet to be disclosed until now. Starting on Monday, August 17 at noon PST, 20th Century Fox will be giving away free first-come, first-serve tickets through the official Avatar website.

Explaining more on the distribution of the free tickets, on Wednesday, August 12, was the studio's distribution topper, Bruce Snyder. "It will be two tickets to a customer to keep people from hoarding," he said. "We expect a tremendous amount of interest from the fans who are aware of 'Avatar.' " IMAX Filmed Entertainment chief Greg Foster chimed in, "I think it's going to be a bit of a stampede. But I can't wait for everyone to see the footage."

The screenings of the extended preview, which will be taking place in 101 IMAX venues in the U.S. and Canada, will be run twice at 6:00 P.M. and at 6:30 P.M. The sneak peek itself will include an introduction from the director, footage shown at screenings at exhibitor events in Hollywood and Amsterdam, and some new footage that were not shown at 2009 San Diego Comic Con. More info for the screenings can be obtained at AvatarMovie.com.

Toward the end of "Avatar" panel at San Diego Comic Con 2009 on July 23, director James Cameron announced that August 21 will be the day when fifteen minutes of Sam Worthington-starred film is screened in many 3-D theaters. On the same date, more conventional 2-D and 3-D "Avatar" trailers will also be shown in theaters worldwide.

A sci-fi movie from 20th Century Fox, "Avatar" centers on a wounded ex-marine, who is thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, and eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival. "Terminator Salvation" actor Sam Worthington and "Fast and Furious" star Michelle Rodriguez are among the cast of the movie. "Avatar" will be released in the U.S. on December 18.
