Mariah Carey reportedly has been tapped to sing at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, joining previously-announced performers Taylor Swift and Muse.

AceShowbiz - Mariah Carey reportedly will make a performance at the 26th annual MTV Video Music Awards, according to Rap-Up. Should the rumor be true, the singer is expected to sing one of the singles from her upcoming album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel".

Previously-announced musical guests at the annual event included Taylor Swift and Muse. Taylor is set to deliver a new version of her single called "You Belong With Me", while Muse are scheduled to perform new single "Uprising" which comes from their upcoming September release "The Resistance".

2009 MTV Video Music Awards will be held on September 9 at 9 P.M. ET with last year's host Russell Brand once again being billed for the job. The awards will take over New York City's most iconic locations, including Radio City Music Hall. Its nominees, presenters and additional performers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Most recently, Jordin Sparks, who defended Jonas Brothers after they were mocked by Russell for wearing purity rings, questioned MTV for recruiting the British actor/comedian again. "Why? I'm just asking why, I just think it's going to be really funny, 'cause I think I'm going to go, but it's going to be funny to see what he pulls out of his sleeve, 'cause does he have any other jokes besides the sexual ones?" she said before then adding. "Nothing mean about it. I'm just asking. It's an honest question. He'll probably target me for saying that. It's OK, Russell. I can take it. I got my armor."

Previously, Russell Brand promised to bring no controversy to the upcoming awards. However, fans will still be treated with an outrageous show as Russell already thought about some ideas to surpass Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno / Eminem incident at 2009 MTV Movie Awards in May. "It's going to be difficult, but having worked with P. Diddy, I am pretty sure I can negotiate a situation where he breastfeeds me live at the podium, 'Unlawful Acts' is the heading of the show. 'VMA 2009: Unlawful Acts.' That's what we're going to call it," he stated.
