'I'm a bit tall, aren't I?' joked the star of 'Doctor Who' when putting brakes to the rumor of him listed among the potential actors to star as Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro's 'The Hobbit'.

AceShowbiz - Words were circulating that David Tennant is among the potential candidates for the role of Bilbo Baggins in "The Hobbit", but the star of BBC's sci-fi series "Doctor Who" has recently slammed down the rumor himself. Addressing the matter when chatting with MTV News, he threw back a question, "The Internet is a curious place, isn't it?"

"I think someone sits in their bedroom in Saskatchewan and comes up with an idea and they post it," the 38-year-old Scottish actor further explained. "And within minutes it's around the world and I'm getting phoned up by journalists and friends of mine saying, 'When are you off to shoot with Guillermo [del Toro]?' It's not something I know anything about. No one's talked with me."

As if his words aren't enough, the actor who portrays Barty Crouch, Jr. in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" pointed out on his doubt that technology can make him a believable hobbit. "I'm a bit tall, aren't I?" he said. "I know they do things with CGI now, but I'm 6'1''. Hobbits are little. I do have quite hairy toes, though."

Earlier, Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex reported that David Tennant along with "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe, and "Atonement" star James McAvoy are reported to be the potential candidates for the leading part. However, del Toro was quick to respond, saying "We're starting to think about casting, but we're knee-deep in the script right now."

"The Hobbit" is taken from J.R.R. Tolkien's novel of the same title and is planned to be made into two-part movies. The movies will re-create the scenes of the novel, with additional events that make an impact to "The Lords of the Rings", such as the expulsion of Sauron from Mirkwood by The White Council.

Shooting is expected to start in March 2010 and go on for about 370 days. Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis are all said to reprise their "The Lord of the Rings" roles as Lord Elrond, Gandalf and Gollum respectively in this adventure fantasy. The first movie is scheduled for December 2011 U.S. release, while the second one is expected to hit theaters across the U.S. a year later.
