Ellen DeGeneres thinks Adam Lambert's public gay proclamation can encourage any other gays to come out of the closet and confirm their sexuality.

AceShowbiz - Runner-up of "American Idol" season 8 Adam Lambert earns praise from Ellen DeGeneres for publicly coming out of the closet and confirming his sexuality. The openly lesbian talk show host tells TV Guide, "I'm proud of him, and I'm happy for anyone who has the guts to actually tell the world who they are and not fear they are going to lose their career or alienate anybody."

Ellen, moreover, says Adam's gay proclamation might bring positive impacts to any other gays who are still afraid of expressing themselves. "We've seen recently in the press how many kids have killed themselves because of being bullied at school and teased," she explains. "Whenever there is somebody who is successful and talented and happy and openly gay, I think that sends a really positive message for all these kids out there that are struggling - and adults."

After remaining coy on speculation regarding his sexuality, Adam Lambert confirmed in this week's issue of Rolling Stone magazine that he is gay. "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay," he opened up. "I've been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man."

Ellen DeGeneres herself came out as a lesbian on the cover of TIME Magazine back in 1997. She was named "the most powerful gay celebrity" in the April edition of U.S. publication Out. She is currently married to same-sex partner Portia de Rossi.
