AceShowbiz - The first ever image of Mickey Rourke as Iron Man's foe in "Iron Man 2" has arrived. Put out by USA Today, the photo showcases Whiplash wearing his armor suit which is equipped with a power pack on his chest that looks similar to the one that Iron Man uses. In the picture, the villain whose alter ego is known as Ivan Vanko is making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

Accompanying the new photo, USA Today has included an interview with director Jon Favreau about the baddie's suit. Of the similarities between Whiplash's suit with Iron Man's, the filmmaker said, "The technologies are definitely related. That's part of the core theme of the film." He also mentioned that Whiplash "has constructed his own version of a suit", adding a pair of whips to the suit.

Despite opening up about Whiplash's armor, Favreau remained mum about whether Whiplash is a weapons designer who works for Justin Hammer like what is told in the comic series. "We like to play into and against the expectations that people might have, so we mixed it up a bit," the 42-year-old explained.

A sequel to the 2008 blockbuster "Iron Man", "Iron Man 2" stars once again Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow who reprise their roles as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Pepper Potts. They are joined by Don Cheadle who will take on Colonel James 'Rhodey' Rhodes in place of Terrence Howard.

Aside from those three, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sam Rockwell and several others will also be seen among the star-studded cast. This superhero film which script is written by "Tropic Thunder" co-scribbler Justin Theroux is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 7, 2010.
