In his interview with Jay Leno, the 'American Idol' champ talks about Adam Lambert, his relationship with wife Katy and how he proposed to her.

AceShowbiz - Sleeping-deprived, Kris Allen made time to sit with Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to talk about his recent victory on "American Idol". After shaking hands with the host, the 23-year-old took his seat and said that he had only two hours of sleep.
Jay questioned his view about the biggest upset when Adam Lambert was lauded as the winner but eventually lost to him. "I totally agree," he said, adding "Adam is amazing" before asking the in-studio audience to give Adam a round of applause. "He's seriously probably one of the most gifted performers that I've ever seen and probably ever been on that Idol show and I think we both deserve it and we're telling each other that everyday. We have a great friendship, so he's doing fine."
Kris continued that judges favoring Adam throughout the competition is something that doesn't bother him because Adam deserved it. The conversation went to the marriage issue where Kris revealed that his wife Katy wanted him to keep her hidden throughout the show because they needed the vote.
Jay dug deeper into the relationship, asking when he met her for the first time. "We've actually known each other for a really really long time but we started dating in high school. We're together for 7 years and been married about 8 months," Kris answered.
The episode aired on May 21 also saw Kris talking about his hometown Conway, Arkansas, his first music instrument, how he proposed to Katy with notes and how he almost didn't make it to the Idol audition.
