'Inglourious Basterds' Hits 2009 Cannes' Red Carpet

'Twilight' hunk Robert Pattinson and Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie were spotted among the celebrities attending the special screening of Quentin Tarantino's war drama at Cannes Film Festival.

AceShowbiz - "Inglourious Basterds" has got a red carpet treatment at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, May 20. Taking place at Grand Theatre Lumiere in Cannes, France, the premiere event has become a star-studded gala with the attendance of many celebrities from rising star Robert Pattinson to veteran actress Sharon Stone.

Hitting the red carpet for the special screening were director Quentin Tarantino and many of the cast members. Among the stars attending were Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent, Diane Kruger, Mike Myers, Daniel Bruhl, Eli Roth, Julie Dreyfus, Michael Fassbender and Samm Levine.

Angelina Jolie was present at the premiere, showing her support to her partner, Pitt who plays Lt. Aldo Raine in the movie. Also spotted coming to the event among others were soul singer Joss Stone, Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, burlesque artist Dita Von Teese, as well as Hollywood socialite Paris Hilton and her boyfriend Doug Reinhardt. Several juries for the fest., Asia Argento, Robin Wright Penn and Shu Qi, were in anttendance as well.

"Inglourious Basterds" centers its story on a group of disgraced U.S. soldiers at the period of World War II. It tells an intertwined story between the soldiers sent to blow up a Parisian theaters premiering a Nazi propaganda film and a French Jewish teenager whose family is brutally murdered by the Nazi. Up for the coveted Palme d'Or, this epic war drama is scheduled to open wide in theaters across the U.S. on August 21.
