Three remaining couples in 'Dancing with the Stars' danced off and did a freestyle in the final chance to draw scores from the judges.

AceShowbiz - "Dancing with the Stars" moves forward with three last standing couples, Gilles Marini-Cheryl Burke, Shawn Johnson-Mark Ballas and Melissa Rycroft-Tony Dovolani. All three of them are competing for the crown as the champion of season 8. And on Monday, May 18, they danced two pieces: a paso doble face-off and a freestyle.

In the paso doble group dance, Shawn gathered two 9s from Carrie and Len, plus a 10 from Bruno. Melissa meanwhile, scored a little bit higher, receiving two 10s from Carrie and Bruno and a 9 from Len. The highest scorer however, was Gilles who pocketed straight 10s.

In the freestyle round, Shawn infused her dance with hip-hop and jitterbug. The couple started off with black jumpsuits and masks that resemble "Las Vegas bank robbers" as host Tom Bergeron put it. But they soon took it off and danced a fun number that eventually brought them the perfect score, 30. Bruno even said, "Eleven!".

The second to take the freestyle was Melissa who went with a little bit of Latin and hip-hop. This was the piece that sent them to the bottom of the list. "Something about the choreography seemed a bit disjointed," Carrie Ann commented. She was given three 9s, two points in total behind Shawn.

Gilles then brought his disco to "Flashdance" that didn't exactly impress the judges. Carrie thought that the choreography was highlighting on Cheryl instead of Gilles. Bruno said to Gilles, "I wanted a little more dancing from you." Len however, thought otherwise and gave him a 10, while the other two lifted up the 9s.

Thus in total, Gilles and Shawn are in tie with 58 while Melissa is the underdog with 56. On the Tuesday, May 19 finale result, a winner will be picked and handed the disco ball. They, however, will be required to dance one more time in the beginning of the show.

On another news, the ninth season of the dancing show has been picked up by ABC and will be included in the Fall line-up.
