'He's doing pretty well. He's about halfway through,' said Sam Mendes, the director who is attached to helm 'Preacher', of how far scribe John August has gone with the development of the adaptation.

AceShowbiz - Screenwriter John August has apparently half-written the script of "Preacher". Bringing forth an update to the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's comic book series, attached director Sam Mendes gushed on the matter while discussing with MTV News about his upcoming film "Away We Go".

"He's doing pretty well," Mendes told MTV News on how August has been doing in compressing the 66 issues of the comic series into one film. "He's about halfway through." Though noticing that there are still plenty to be done, the director of "Revolutionary Road" still kept a positive mind, "There's a long way to go yet, but I'm very, very hopeful. I think it could be amazing."

While there are hopes for the movie to spawn a sequel or two, the husband of actress Kate Winslet stressed on the importance of the first movie. "You have to try and get one really good and then, if you're lucky, you can make a second or a third," he explained. "You can create something that's going to run. But I think that there's certainly more than enough for one good movie and plenty left over."

"Preacher" is adapted from critically lauded graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It revolves around Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher of a small Texas town. Struggling to get by and driven only by his strong moral sense, he embarks on a journey across the country to take on an otherworldly force when the town is decimated by the evil.
