Sad news comes from Lynyrd Skynyrd as the band announced the death of its bassist Ean Evans who loses his battle with cancer.

AceShowbiz - Ean Evans, who serves as band Lynyrd Skynyrd's bassist, passed away at his home in eastern Mississippi on Wednesday, May 6 after losing his battle with cancer. He was 48 and is survived by his wife Eva and their two daughters.

In a short message posted on its official site on the same day of Ean's death, the rock band said, "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Ean Evans. Ean put up a valiant battle with an aggressive form of cancer and he will be sorely missed by family, friends and fans." Funeral arrangements, in the meantime, are incomplete, Associated Press reported.

Ean Evans, according to reports, was born in Atlanta, but moved to Columbus after marrying his wife, Eva. He joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2001 following the death of the band's Leon Wilkeson. He had been touring regularly with the band when he was diagnosed with cancer back in 2008 that resulted in him cutting back on performances with the band.

Despite Ean's death, Lynyrd Skynyrd will reportedly continue their ongoing world tour with a replacement bassist.
