Line-Up of 2009 Cannes Film Festival Announced

Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds', Ang Lee's 'Taking Woodstock' and Lars von Trier's 'Antichrist' are unveiled to be among the in-competition films at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The official selection of movies to be shown at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival has finally been unveiled. In the festival that will be kicked off on May 13 and wrapped on May 24, a total of 52 films will be featured from four categories, In Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, and Special Screenings.

Pedro Almodovar's "", Ang Lee's "" and Quentin Tarantino's "" are listed among the 20 In Competition movies. They will be up against Jane Campion's "", Ken Loach's "Looking for Eric", Michael Haneke's "", Lars von Trier's "" and Park Chan-wook's "" among others.

Terry Gilliam-directed drama fantasy starring , , and the late , "", has been included in the Out of Competition line-up. In the meantime, Sam Raimi's horror "" enters the Midnight Screenings list.

Opening the annual fest held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in France on May 13 will be Pete Docter and Bob Peterson-directed animation "", while closing the fest is Jan Kounen's "Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky".

The detailed line-up for the festival was outed by the fest duo Gilles Jacob and Fremaux at a news conference Thursday, April 23, in Paris. On the occasion, Jacob also revealed plans to post the first five minutes of all films on Festival de Cannes site. "We hope that Internet users, leaving their consoles and GameBoys behind, will be tempted to rush into the closest movie theater to discover the rest," he explained.
