The '80s iconic television series, 'MacGyver', will be revived as a big screen material with New Line Cinema searching for its screenwriter.

AceShowbiz - "MacGyver" is getting a big screen treatment. The feature film version of the popular '80s TV series about a laid-back, but extremely resourceful secret agent will be produced by Raffaella De Laurentiis, daughter of "Hannibal Rising" producer Dino De Laurentiis, through her Raffaella Productions along with Martha De Laurentiis and series creator Lee Zlotoff.

While there is yet writer attached to the project, the studio reportedly look forward to find a script that can acknowledge how the concept has staked a place into pop culture yet still makes for a serious and fun adventure movie. Of the film, New Line Cinema's Richard Brener stated, "We think we're a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise."

"MacGyver" was a science-oriented adventure series that ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC. Starring Richard Dean Anderson as Angus MacGyver, the series followed MacGyver as he solves desperate problems one after another using his practical application of scientific knowledge and inventive use of common items. After the series was canceled, two TV movies were made, and "Saturday Night Live" made a parody out of it entitled "MacGruber".
