Starring as Laurent in 'Twilight' and expected to make a return in 'New Moon', Edi Gathegi opens up about his character's love interest as well as Taylor Lautner's commitment on his part.

AceShowbiz - As "New Moon" is stepping closer and closer to its production start, another "Twilight" actor comes out to discuss parts of the vampire drama sequel. Sharing his opinion to MTV, Edi Gathegi, the actor who plays nomadic vampire Laurent addresses several issues from a fan choice of Sophia Myles as Irina to Taylor Lautner's seriousness to play Jacob Black in the new film.

In "New Moon", Gathegi's character will meet a Denali vampire named Irina whom he is interested in. When asked by MTV about a fan's choice of "Outlander" actress Myles as Irina in a YouTube fan-made video, Gathegi responds "She's a good choice. I could be happy with that." He continues, "I like her work...Now I'm not going to be able to get her out of my mind for that character."

As of the Irina character, the 29-year-old explains that the character should be "extremely vulnerable", adding that he believes the trait is "what leads her to make the choices that she makes". The actor who is also seen in TV series "House M.D." further adds, "She should also be hard-headed. Vulnerable and hard-headed. But I think those are things that a good actress can do, so type-wise, I don't even know. I don't even think people saw me as Laurent for a while. So just let the best actress win, I say."

On the re-signing of Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Gathegi reveals that he and Lautner will get together to celebrate, saying "Taylor and I are going to his parents' place for dinner tonight - and then go to the gym...We're going to celebrate tonight." On Lautner's commitment for his character, Gathegi says, "You should see this kid! He's jacked. He's taking it seriously."

"We've worked out in every city on our tour," the "Gone Baby Gone" actor moreover explains. "If you see him, you'll know immediately. This kid is so strong right now, it is unreal. He has achieved with his body what people with steroids cannot achieve. The only way I can describe it is that God has given him this time for this growth spurt and this body right now."

Talking about his own character in "New Moon", Gathegi fesses up that he is looking forward to "being fully bad". He then elaborates, "Not just halfway bad. I like the transition from being conscious and compassionate, to ['New Moon' when Laurent realizes] that's too difficult. I've got to be a vampire." More on the interview with Edi Gathegi can be read at MTV.
