Dominic Monaghan Throws Possibility of the Hobbits' Appearance in 'The Hobbit'
Movie

Dominic Monaghan reveals that there is big chance that he and his fellow Hobbits' depicters could return to the Middle-earth.

AceShowbiz - Dominic Monaghan could be seen once again as the intelligent yet innocent and well-meaning Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck. To MTV News at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, the 32-year-old actor reveals that "The Hobbit" producers want to bring "Lord of the Rings" hobbits back, saying "They really want us to come back, and I think there's a really strong chance that we might be back."

On the chance, Monaghan who will next be seen starring as Barnell Bohusk in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" gushes that he has met the writers, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. "I've been chatting with Pete and [writers] Fran [Walsh] and Philippa [Boyens] about the chance of us coming back," he recalls. "I think the fans of the first three 'Lord of the Rings' films will be charmed by going back into the world."

He further notes that the J.R.R. Tolkien novel doesn't actually include the four "LOTR" hobbits in the storylines. "We're not in 'The Hobbit,' no, but I think the idea in [Jackson's, Del Toro's and the other producers'] heads is that the trilogy of the 'Lord of the Rings' films was so beloved by the fans that they're really keen to try to say thank you for the support that they gave to the 'Lord of the Rings' movies and possibly bring back some of those characters that they know and love," so he explains.

The actor who won Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal of Charlie Pace in "Lost" moreover continues explaining on the project, stating that "It's a completely different story." He then adds, "You don't have the same characters all the way through it. And I always read 'The Hobbit' as being more of a children's introduction to the story, and then 'Lord of the Rings' was kind of the main piece."

Talking about what allures him to join the production, Monaghan says, "It's being produced by Peter Jackson, who obviously made the first films, and his special-effects company are making it. It's directed by Guillermo del Toro, who I think, outside of Peter Jackson, would be the number-one person to give this any amount of the tenderness that it deserves. Obviously, Ian McKellen's going to be back for it, and Andy Serkis is going to be back for it." More on the interview can be read via MTV.

To be produced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson who has directed Tolkien's other novel adaptation, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Hobbit" will be a two-part movie. The first part, entitled "The Hobbit", will follow Bilbo Baggins' journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarfs to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug, while the second "The Hobbit 2" will serve as a bridge between "Hobbit" and "LOTR". "Hobbit" is scheduled for December 1, 2011 release and "Hobbit 2" is set to be released exactly a year later on December 1, 2012.
