Though Michael Copon's name has been put forward as one of the contenders for the Jacob Black role in "New Moon", it doesn't mean that Taylor Lautner would give up his part that easily. Speaking out for the first time since the news of him being considered to be replaced, the 16-year-old actor told MTV he has been working out to fit the character's physical description in the sequel.

"I have been working out. I've been working out since the day we finished filming 'Twilight.' I just weighed myself today; I've put on 19 pounds," said the Shark Boy of "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D" at Hollywood Foreign Press Association Salutes Young Hollywood event on Wednesday, December 17. "I'm guaranteeing Weitz 10 more [pounds] by filming. I get to meet Chris on Friday, in two days, so I'm excited. I'm going to have lunch with him."

Addressing on the omission of his name from the "New Moon" press release, he reasoned, "I think it's because, well, Rob and Kristen were the lead roles in 'Twilight,' so they've got to be back." He then added, "I don't even know if they're officially signed; maybe they are, I don't know. They just hired Weitz, and now they're just moving down the cast. All I can say is, I'm going to be ready if my number's called."

Explaining on the differences of his role in "Twilight" and "New Moon", Lautner stated, "My job for 'Twilight' was to bring 'Twilight' Jacob to life - the friendly, happy-go-lucky little Jacob. And my job for 'New Moon' is completely different; I've been looking forward to that." He continued in assuring that he is the one for the job, "I've been getting ready for it, and I can assure them that I will follow through with that job."

On Michael Copon's claims that he had landed the Jacob role in Facebook, Lautner insisted that it is still too early to tell whether Copon has indeed secured the part. "I've heard a few things," he confessed. "I don't really know too much to comment on it. As far as I know, I haven't been told 'no' yet, so it's still all up in the air." More on the interview can be read via MTV.

An adaptation to Stephenie Meyer's second novel of her "Twilight" series, "New Moon" still follows the romantic story between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. Centering on the personal conflict Bella experiences, it will chronicle the time Bella Swan is left devastated by the abrupt departure of Edward Cullen. Finding solace in her friendship with Jacob Black, she soon finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves and her loyalty to the vampires are tested.

The production is scheduled to begin in the coming months for November 20, 2009 release. Penned by "Twilight" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, this next Summit romance drama will be directed by "The Golden Compass" director Chris Weitz and most likely sees the return of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as the unlikely lovers.
