Barack Obama offers comfort words for Jennifer Hudson, saying he and wife Michelle Obama "pray for the swift and safe return of her young nephew", 7-year-old Julian King.

AceShowbiz - Hot on the heels of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother's death, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is reaching out to her, taking time out from campaigning on Saturday, October 25 to send his condolences for the Academy Award-winning actress-singer. Besides him, rapper-actress Queen Latifah and singer Stacy Ferguson are among the many celebrities who also offer support for Hudson.

Speaking to Mario Lopez of "Extra", Obama said he was saddened upon hearing report on Hudson's mother and brother's murder. "It was heartbreaking -- in fact, I'm still trying to get a phone number to call her at this tragic time," the politician stated. "She is somebody who has campaigned for me, and she also lives in my community. So, we're really going to have to help her and pray for her and her family during this difficult time."

In August, Hudson sang the National Anthem at the Democratic National Convention, where Obama was formally named the party's nominee, after a personal request from the senator's camp. Offering his support for her, Obama also has publicly issued a statement, saying he and his wife Michelle Obama "were absolutely heartbroken to learn about this unimaginable tragedy." "We want Jennifer and to know that she is in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. We also pray for the swift and safe return of her young nephew," so he stated.

Hudson's "The Secret Life of Bees" co-star Latifah also offered comforting words for the "American Idol" alum, saying "I know the family is devastated and heartbroken and I hope that friends and fans and those who care about her just pray for her and give her all the support that she needs at this moment and for quite a long time to come."

Fergie, meanwhile, commented, "It's such a sad thing and my heart goes out to Jennifer Hudson right now because you know something tragic that has happened to her," adding, "I just feel horrible. Things happen in life and you really have to just stop and really consider what's valuable to you."
