The drama thriller movie starring Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron has been rumored to be quietly pushed back until sometime in 2009.

AceShowbiz - "The Road", a drama thriller film based on Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, is rumored to be pushed back from its initial release date. In an article from Entertainment Weekly, Dave Karger has predicted that the flick may be available for 2009 release, contrary to the movie official site's notion that "The Road" has been slated to be released on November 14.

Supporting report comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which claimed that the movie, in fact, has been quietly delayed to be released at least in December with a possibility of 2009 release. Furthermore, the publication has reported that on Thursday, October 16, studio executives are scheduled to discuss with "Road" producers whether the flick will be released this year.

Reasoning on the possibility of it being delayed until 2009, Hollywood Reporter noted that it may have some connection to the Stephen Daldry's drama "The Reader". Weinstein has pushed "Reader" ahead for December 10 opening, rather than "Road", since the company sees "Reader" as more potential in gaining commercial and awards success.

"Road" is starred by Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. John Hillcoat, who is responsible for directing the flick, has chosen to shoot this movie mainly in Pennsylvania this year. Meanwhile, 2929 Entertainment and Nick Wechsler Prods. are producing the film. The story is about a man and his son traveling through a desperate, post-apocalyptic world.
