AceShowbiz - "Ally McBeal" creator, David E. Kelley, returns to NBC to produce his father-daughter legal drama series. NBC has picked up the new series as the preparation for the departure of its hit series, "ER", for this season.
The new series is being expected to have a sense of humor and drama like Kelley's other series characteristic. It will tell a story about a father and his daughter who are in the same occupation as attorneys.
Kelley inked a deal with Warner Bros earlier this year to produce the series' script. CBS and NBC were the TV networks which competed each other to have the right to broadcast the show, which finally ended with NBC's victory.
The new deal is the first project for Kelley and the network after they last work together on "L.A. Law" in the late 1980s and early '90s. Kelley was the creator of ABC hit drama series, "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice", and won Emmy awards for his contribution on those. He also works for "The Practice" spin off, "Boston Legal", in finishing the final 13 episodes for this ABC series.
Meanwhile, NBC suffers for its new series, "Knight Rider" and "My Own Worst Enemy", which got unsuccessful ratings so far. The brand new series, "Crusoe", will premiere on Friday, October 17, while, "The Philanthropist" and "Kings", are a couple of dramas which are planned for midseason.
