He told the press during the London premiere of "HSM 3" that he's been approached to take over the role of Alan Strang in "Equus" from Daniel Radcliffe.

AceShowbiz - New rumor has just surfaced by the hour that Zac Efron has been approached to star in Broadway play "Equus," baring his flesh for the role of Alan Strang, taking it away from Daniel Radcliffe. According to The Sun, the "High School Musical" heartthrob let slip that matter during the London premiere of "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."

"You know that Daniel Radcliffe role on Broadway, well it's been mentioned," so he told the press. There has yet comment from people behind the production about approaching Zac for the controversial role.

Radcliffe initially played Alan Strang in London's West End in 2007 before then taking over the Broadway. His character, which is featured in the play poking horses in the eye with a metal wire and striding them naked for sexual thrills, has provoked controversy among people. Some of them think he should not play the character considering his young age and his role in the "Harry Potter" films because of which he is considered as a role model by many young children.

As for Zac, taking over the role from Radclife might help creating a whole new image for him as he is attempting to embrace a mature character. He, in the meantime, is making his way to star in big screen movies and has finished filming "Me and Orson Welles" co-starring Claire Danes, which was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2008.

As of late, he is reported to be teaming up with "HSM" director Kevin Ortega for musical "Footloose," a remake of 80s flick of the same title.
