Selena Gomez Named Spokesperson for UNICEF's Trick-or-Treat Campaign

Feeling "extremely excited" to be the spokesperson for the program, she vows to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world by getting involved in the cause.

AceShowbiz - Young and famous, Selena Gomez is recruited as the new spokesperson for the 2008 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign, which will mark its 58th anniversary this month. The cause, which is aimed to encourage American children to help out other children around the world by collecting donations while making their yearly candy, is set to be held on October 31.

"I am extremely excited to be this year's Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF spokesperson," Gomez said in a statement. "I want to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world and show them that Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is such a great, fun way to get involved."

Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, praised Gomez for getting involved in the Trick-or-Treat campaign, saying "We are thrilled to have Selena be a part of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program this year. Young people can relate to Selena, and she is a great role model who we believe will greatly enhance the visibility of the program."

As of press time, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign has raised more than $140 million since it was first started in 1950. Gomez herself declined to reveal on her plans for the nearing Halloween. She in the meantime is still starring as Alex Russo on Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place."
