Expect Lots of Action From 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'
Movie

Producer Lauren Schuler Donner shares interesting tidbits about the forthcoming 'X-Men' spin-off as well as about one of the characters, Deadpool.

AceShowbiz - In a red carpet interview with Coming Soon, producer Lauren Shuler Donner spoke out about the 20th Century Fox forthcoming film, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Though insisting to be secretive about details of the action fantasy film, the filmmaker let out that when watching "Wolverine", fans will be presented with a darker "X-Men" movie which is supported with a lot of action sequences.

"I guess it's closer to the first 'X-Men' in tone because it's a little darker, but there's a lot of action," she explained. "It's his origin story. It's really good. I've been in the editing room the last couple of weeks and I think that it's good and that audiences are going to like it. But it's a little darker." She also teases that this time Hugh Jackman will show a different side of Wolverine that no one has ever seen before.

Aside from "Wolverine" dark tone, Donner let out that there are parts of the plot that have been taken from the 2001 "X-Men: Origins" comic book by Bill Jemas, Joe Quesada, Paul Jenkins, Andy Kubert and Richard Isanove. "There's an 'X-Men: Origins' that some of it is pulled from, and then it's sort of an amalgamation of some of them. But 'X-Men: Origins' sort of goes back into his young, young past, and we started there," so she claimed.

On the occasion, the producer also confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will take on the role of Wade Winston Wilson whose alter ego is known as Deadpool. "Yes. Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool," she said. "He plays Wade Wilson." When asked whether the high-tech mercenary will be getting his spin-off flick, Donner confessed she is hoping for it saying, "I hope so. I really hope so. He's so good at it."

"Wolverine" is a prequel to the "X-Men" trilogy that is focused on the titular character and his Team X before he is turned to be the Wolverine known today whose skeleton was bonded with the indestructible metal adamantium. The movie which is currently still filming is being developed under the direction of "Rendition" helmer Gavin Hood and starred by Jackman, Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Dominic Monaghan and many others. It is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2009.
