She handed the check on Wednesday, October 1 and even took time posing for some pictures with the police and signing autographs for the kids.

AceShowbiz - Getting back on track following her public breakdown, Britney Spears has been keeping herself busy doing massive comeback effort, making donation to John Philip Sousa Middle School 142 in New York's Bronx on Wednesday, October 1. Dropping by the school as part of her trip to the Big Apple, she presented a $10,000 check to be used as an endowment for the school's year-old music program.

Wearing a navy blue v-neckline dress with brown high heels, Britney took time posing for photographs with the police and signing autographs for the kids. Students of the school weren't in class because it was Jewish holiday.

Upon her arrival, Britney was greeted by the school's eight-piece band, called the Sousatones. Its director Sal Mazzola told the singer, "When you're ready to take us on the road for an opening act, we're ready." To that she responded, "You'll be the first people I call." She was also serenaded by a chorus of seven girls, including soloist Rachel Lewis, 14, who sang "I Am Woman."

Making the donation on behalf of Elizabeth Arden, which is behind her fragrances, Britney was quoted by People as saying, "I really enjoyed the time I spent at the John Philip Souza Middle School. I've been working with the people at Elizabeth Arden for the last five years, and I know how passionate everyone is about the school. I loved hearing the school orchestra and the children sang so beautifully. The fact that Elizabeth Arden made such a large donation for the school music studio in my name was so generous."

As for her music career, Britney has just had a new single titled "Womanizer" released. She recently also confirmed to be embarking on a world tour next year in support of her upcoming album, "Circus", which will come out on December 2 later this year.
