AceShowbiz - Teenage heartthrob Jesse McCartney is turning his back on singing to invade the small screen, joining the cast of ABC Family's comedy drama "Greek." Entertainment Weekly reported Monday, September 29 that the singer will star in the series for its mid-season return in spring 2009.

McCartney reportedly will portray the role of Andy, a high school friend of Calvin, Paul James' character, who fuels a rivalry between the Kappa Tau and Omega Chi houses when he proves to be an in-demand pledge. Actor Ken Marino is also set to guest star in the mid-season premiere as a fellow summer camp counselor with Rusty, played by Jacob Zachar.

When "Greek" returns for the second half of its second season Casey, Spencer Grammer's character, will have to deal with a secret sorority and spies as she enters her senior year at Cyprus-Rhodes University. Rusty, meanwhile, returns as a sophomore and an active Kappa Tau member. The fraternities and sororities reportedly are bracing for an exciting rush week with new incoming students.

McCartney, who recently appeared as a guest performer on "Dancing with the Stars", is a singer, songwriter and actor. He initially came to fame in the early 2000s as the youngest member of the boy band Dream Street. After that pursuing a solo career, he's best known for his single "Beautiful Soul."

Invading the small screen, he has appeared in a number of TV series, one of which was ABC's soap opera "All My Children," where he played as Adam Chandler, Jr. He has also starred in the 2007 big screen flick "Alvin and the Chipmunks."
