Russell Crowe Taking Double Duty in 'Nottingham'
Movie

The casting news from the director itself suggests that Crowe will play both Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood.

AceShowbiz - The casting of Universal Pictures' "Nottingham" is taking an interesting twist as two rival characters will be played by a single actor. Russell Crowe who has been attached to the project playing as Sheriff of Nottingham, will take a double duty playing as the villainous Robin Hood as well.

Director Ridley Scott confirms the fact himself, telling MTV News that Crowe is "playing both". Although other details are kept for efficiency, Scott said that the dual roles would be "a good old clever adjustment of characters. One becomes the other. It changes."

This at the same time breaks the speculation that Christian Bale is signed to portray the legendary thief, Hood plus answers some questions why the project was halted back in July. Apparently, with the new plot, the script will need some rework to match the casting plan. On this Crowe shared his side of story, saying that the movie is "one of those things where we're taking our time with. You don't want to be doing Robin Hood unless you're going to be doing it really f*cking well. It's got to be the best one ever done otherwise you should do something else."

"Nottingham" will center on Sheriff of Nottingham as the nobler man and put Robin Hood as the shadier one. It is slated to be released in theaters on November 6, 2011.
