'I Am Legend' Prequel Gets Thumbs Up

Both Will Smith and director Francis Lawrence reportedly will return to tackle the prequel which development has just been confirmed.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. Pictures have finally confirmed that the prequel of "I Am Legend", "Untitled I Am Legend Prequel", is in the works. According to Variety, the studio have set the project in motion as the film's star Will Smith, who is returning as Dr. Robert Neville, and director Francis Lawrence are reportedly going to collaborate once again for the new project.

The script for the prequel will be penned by D.B. Weiss and is based on a detailed outline that was hatched over the past few months by Smith, Lawrence and producers, Akiva Goldsman and James Lassiter. It will center its story on the final days leading up to wiping up of the New York population by the man-made virus.

"I Am Legend" itself is Lawrence's sci-fi horror film based on Richard Matheson's novel of the same name. Telling the story about the lone survivor in the world that has been infected by incurable virus, the flick starring Smith, Alice Braga and Charlie Tahan has opened first on the box office with $77.2 million and since its release on December 14, 2007, it has collected $584 million worldwide.
