The director opens up about the changes he has done to the comic book adaptation.

AceShowbiz - Though adapted from Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's comic book series of the same name, "Y: The Last Man" will be presenting fans with several fresh twists. To First Showing, director D.J. Caruso has revealed that one of the changes would show a deeper connection between Yorick and Ampersand.
"One big change is that we put in a 'ticking clock' with Yorick and Ampersand," Caruso said explaining further, "and I separated them, and Yorick starts to get a little sick when Ampersand's not with him. I felt like we needed some kind of ticking clock so it wasn't just a boy and his monkey." Though offering several changes, the filmmaker insisted that the movie will open like its original book.
"Initially it'll open very similar to what you know in the opening book basically, with Yorick and Beth," he stated. "And ultimately when it all goes down, we jump to 6 or 8 weeks later, and sort of take that world there. In the montage of when it's all happening, we do see what happens in China, we do have little vignettes of things that are happening all over the world."
"And then from that point on, in the first movie, it then stays in Yorick's journey to get to - with 355 as they try get across - and find the doctor and losing Ampersand...It's global in that you see what happens, but it doesn't go out and further."
"Y" follows the story of the last man on Earth. Centering its story on a young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown, the film will follow his journey to Australia to find his girlfriend after a mysterious plague roamed Earth killing every single Y chromosome mammal leaving Brown and his Capuchin monkey Ampersand to be the only mammal male on the planet. The movie eyes Shia LaBeouf to play the leading man and Alicia Keys to portray Agent 355.
