Janet Jackson cuts ties with Def Jam Records and plans to be a free agent who works on her own for her next album.

AceShowbiz - After reported to have issues with her label, Def Jam Records, Janet Jackson finally decides to end her contract with the recording company. "At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship," her representative says.

Earlier this month, Janet, who is currently on tour, has revealed the possible split with the label. "I can't say if we'll be working with them in the future. I don't know what the future holds between the two of us," the "Feedback" singer states.

Now that her 14-months agreement with Def Jam is finalized, the singer reportedly plans to go alone for her next project. "Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album "Control", Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system," her publicist adds in a further explanation. " ... Janet's departure from Island makes her one of the first superstar artists to have the individual freedom to promote their work through a variety of avenues such as iTunes, mobile carriers and other diverse and innovative channels."

Commenting on Janet's decision, Rodney Jerkins, powerhouse producer who helped her making her tenth studio album, "Discipline", says that the Jermaine Dupri's girlfriend just got minimum support from the label. "We didn't get the support from the record company," he explains. "[Janet] felt like it wasn't pushed. I felt like it wasn't pushed correctly. She just didn't get her just due as an artist of that magnitude."

The producer also reveals the possibility for him and Janet to work together again in her next record. "I could make an album with her, possibly me, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. Keep it real simple," he says. "They focus on what they're great at, I focus on what I'm great at. We come together and make a classic Janet record."
