Metallica Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Along with The Stooges and CHIC, Metallica are among the nominees of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, of which winners will be announced next year.

have been announced as one of the eight nominees for next year's induction of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Other nominees are guitarist , female rock and roll singer Wanda Jackson, Rhythm and blues vocal group Little Anthony & the Imperials, punk band War, R&B singer and songwriter Bobby Womack, disco and R&B group CHIC, and rock band The Stooges.

"It's an interesting group because it really shows the nominating committee showed some thought and energy into who should be inducted," president and CEO of the New York City-based Rock Hall foundation, Joel Peresman, says. "It truly shows it's never a closed door for any artist to be nominated."

Five of the nine nominees, who lead the vote, will reportedly be announced in January and then inducted during a ceremony which is set to be held on April 4 at Cleveland's Public Hall. For the first time, tickets to the induction event will be available to the public.

Speaking of Metallica, the band have just released their ninth major studio effort called "" on September 10 via Warner Bros. Records. The album sold close to 490,000 copies in just three days of availability. Also, it scored big around the world with number 1 debuts in many countries, including France, Germany, U.K., New Zealand, and Australia.
