'Bangkok Dangerous' Blasts at Box Office on Worst Weekend
Movie

The success of the Nicolas Cage-starring action movie in nailing the #1 place on the chart has been blemished with contradiction.

AceShowbiz - "Bangkok Dangerous", the remake of Thai 1999 crime film of the same name, has taken over the domination of "Tropic Thunder" at the North American box office. Shooting up to the coveted #1 position, the Nicolas Cage-starrer action thriller collects $7.8 million from its screening in 2,650 theaters across the country.

Though nailing the top place on the chart, the Pang brothers movie has presented the box office with the worst weekend sales in five years since it is unable to collect more than $10 million over the three days of showing. Previous box office champion grossing less than $10 million was David Spade's comedy "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star", which raked in $6.7 million in 2003.

Furthermore, its success is also smothered with another downer as it marks the slowest movie weekend in seven years. Nevertheless, Steve Rothenberg, Lionsgate Film's vice president of distribution takes the positive side by saying, "We're going to make a profit on it. We lucked out. No one was going against it."

Falling to the second place on its fourth weekend is Ben Stiller's comedy "Tropic". With a decrease of 37.2|percent| in its sales, the DreamWorks Pictures film still manages to haul in $7.2 million to the total of $96.5 million. Following "Thunder" in the third slot is another comedy movie "The House Bunny" which brings in $5.5 million.

Slipping down a notch to fourth but maintaining to be in the top five for 8 weeks in a row is summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight". The Christopher Nolan-directed movie starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger pulls in $5.5 million to the total of nearly $512 million. Rounding up the top five is Overture Films espionage drama "Traitor" with $4.3 million.
