Second Season 'Gossip Girl' Off to a Solid Start, Still Half of 'Prison Break'

The CW's 'Gossip Girl' absorbed 3.38 million viewers and increased its women 18-34 demographic but way below the new season of 'Prison Break'.

AceShowbiz - The CW kicked it off rather well this Fall with the premiere of "Gossip Girl" that hit the second season on Monday, September 1. On the first episode of the new season, the teen TV series absorbed as many as 3.38 million viewers, an increase from the season finale in May that rounded up to 3 million.

Although the opening number is a slight decline from its pilot episode (3.5 million), "Gossip Girl" attracted more adult demographic aged 18 to 49 that goes up 6 per cent. CW also announced that it also appeals higher to women aged 18 to 34, a demographic which has become the most-coveted. Their key demo rounded up in three major cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The primetime show entered at the same time slot of the fourth season of "Prison Break" that garnered almost its double. The Fox show that sees Michael and his former jail mates breaking into a building in its first episode, accumulated 6.48 million overall viewers and 2.67 million in its 18-49 demographic. But the most-watched of all last night was NBC's game show "Deal or No Deal" that benefited from its first 1 million dollar winner episode with 10.89 million viewers tuning in.
