Updated report from the 'Watchmen' legal drama noted that the situation is not quite like what it seems since the 20th Century Fox are said to only seek for affirmation of the rights.

AceShowbiz - Since the news about 20th Century Fox trying to prevent Warner Bros. from distributing the much anticipated "Watchmen" hit, fans quickly respond with an outrage and plan to boycott Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". However, a recent report from Entertainment Weekly suggested that the previous reports may not be accurate noting that Fox are not looking to stop the Zack Snyder's movie from being released.

A source close to Fox revealed that the studio's intention with the lawsuit is only to gain affirmation of ownership which may result in cash settlement or distribution rights of the movie. "Of course we are concerned about the fans; however, any disappointment from the core fans should not be directed toward Fox," the source told EW. "What we are doing is seeking to enforce our distribution rights to 'Watchmen.' Legal copyright ownership should not just be swept under the rug and ignored."

The source also claimed that the studio have contacted Warner Bros. about the issue several times before "Watchmen" began its production, but the efforts were not meet with any response from Warner Bros. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, August 19, Warner Bros.' spokesman issued a statement regarding the legal problem saying, "We respectfully disagree with Fox's position and do not believe they have any rights in and to this project."

Up to this point, "Watchmen" is still listed to be released on March 6, 2009. The Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' comic book adaptation will see Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode and Carla Gugino as the costumed superheroes in the alternate 1985 America when they are trying to solve the mystery behind the plot to discredit all past and present superheroes.
