Guy Ritchie's 'Sherlock Holmes' Embodying Early James Bond

Discussing about the new 'Sherlock Holmes' movie, Guy Ritchie and Joel Silver confessed that they will present the famous detective more as an action hero like the superspy agent, James Bond.

AceShowbiz - What is Sherlock Holmes' signature trait? To most people, the answer may surely be his genius mind capable of solving even the most elaborated cases. But, it seems that it isn't the only quality of the notable detective "Sherlock Holmes" filmmakers has in mind since they plan on making the character an action hero of his own, like the famous spy agent James Bond.

Speaking to MTV about his reinterpretation of the fictional detective, Ritchie confessed that he wants the character to stay true to his origin. "They never seem to manifest that [element] in some of the earlier productions they've done of 'Sherlock Holmes,'" explained the husband of Madonna. "We're trying to bring a completely contemporary and entertaining perspective on an intellectual action hero true to his origins where he was more of an action guy originally."

Adding to Ritchie's comment, producer Joel Silver related this project to the early James Bond movies. "It's like James Bond in 1891. Nobody ever did the 'Sherlock Holmes' story as an action movie, and he really was an action guy. [Ours] is a big, wild action movie," revealed the acclaimed film producer that has been working together with Ritchie for "Rocknrolla".

On "Holmes" related news, Ritchie has confirmed that Holmes' arch nemesis, Professor Moriarty, will be making an appearance in this movie. Further, he explained that the film's story won't be based on neither Sherlock's stories or novels, instead it will be built up on an "amalgamation" of Arthur Conan Doyle's remarkable library.

Starring Robert Downey Jr. as the popular 19th century detective, the Warner Bros. Pictures' movie is expected to be finished in 2010.
