Artist of the Week: David Banner

David Banner, the incredible hulk of hip-hop finds himself in the center of attention with his latest release, 'The Greatest Story Ever Told'.

AceShowbiz - No one doubts the talent David Banner owns, or the power he has over Hip-Hop. With Mississippi literally resting on his back, the rapper who employs his stage name after "The Incredible Hulk"'s main character shows how in rage he could when it comes to freedom of lyrics. The 35-year-old has testified before Congress the end of last year, boldly voicing his thoughts on the issues that African-American people face within the society. He declared "Hip-hop is sick because America is sick."

However, Banner isn't always political in his manner. The business graduate puts what matters in his purpose, his music. In an interview with HipHopDX.com, he explained the life event that eventually become the reason behind his frequent delays over his newest album "The Greatest Story Ever Told".

"I had high blood pressure and I also had sleep apnea. And with those conditions the doctor said I was about to die," Banner explained. "I think in that time I've become a man. I've spent seven months helping Katrina victims and growing as a person. When The Greatest Story Ever Told comes out on July 15th, it won't be a boy rapping. I've become a man. I'm going to make y'all proud."

And so the quest to the success of the album has begun. The second single off the set, "Get Like Me (Stuntin Is a Habit)" that features Chris Brown has slowly but surely been climbing up the Billboard Hot 100 chart at a steady uphill rate. The song started below a hundred but in its eight week, it has moved up incredibly more than 70 places to conquer the 27th position.

Beside rolling in the music industry, he has also branched out to movie biz. He had a starring role in a psycho-sexual drama "Black Snake Moan" alongside Samuel L. Jackson and a bigger part in season film "This Christmas". Already, two other movies are on his 2008 path. "Days of Wrath" and "The Longshots" become the proofs that he is not merely tasting the water in acting.

To some, he is a Hip-Hop icon, and to many he is the representative of many unsaid things.
