'Hancock' Less Than Impressive Start
Movie

Raking in 24.2 million dollar during its one and a half day screening, the action movie starring Will Smith doesn't really show an impressive debut as one of the summer blockbuster movies.

AceShowbiz - Kicking off the Fourth of July holiday weekend, "Hancock" has been screened on the theaters starting on Tuesday, July 1. Putting up movie star Will Smith as the titular role, the action movie is expected to deliver some impressive opening, but it seems that it embraced only a mild welcome.

From its one and a half day of screening from more than 3,000 theaters across the country, the film about the slacker superhero has collected as much as $24.2 million. The number is the accumulation of its Tuesday's night previews which generated $6.8 million and its first full day screening on Wednesday, July 2 through which it pulled in $17.4 million.

Though seems to have gaining a great deal of sales in the short time, the Peter Berg-directed movie is far from breaking "Transformers" impressive one and a half day opening during last year's Fourth of July. The action movie about the battle between two clans of transforming robots opened on Monday night with $8.8 million and for its first full day, it attracted $27.9 million making it to have the total of $36.7 million, more than ten million over "Hancock".

From the man who presented moviegoers with "I Am Legend", producer Akiva Goldsman, "Hancock" follows the story of a misunderstood and misjudged superhero who after saving a PR executive, tries to re-do his public image. It stars also Jason Bateman as the PR executive and Charlize Theron as the executive's wife. The flick was scripted by Vince Gilligan and Vincent Ngo.
