The second-season American Idol champion and his girlfriend Surata Zuri McCants obtained a marriage license Monday, June 23 and reportedly are getting hitched within 30 days.

AceShowbiz - Ruben Studdard has gotten one step closer to tying the knot. The second-season American Idol champion obtained a marriage license Monday, June 23 in Alabama, People reports.

Studdard, 29, and his fiancee Surata Zuri McCants, 30, arrived at the Shelby County Probate Office in Birmingham just before noon. The pair filled out the paperwork and walked away with their license, a source informed People.

Both Studdard and McCants "looked really happy," the source added. And while there have yet words on marriage plans, the Alabama marriage license Studdard already obtained is valid for 30 days.

A representative for Studdard has, in the meantime, confirmed to US Weekly that the singer is engaged to his girlfriend McCants. The rep provided no further details though.

Studdard was last reported to have been caught in a dispute with a concert promoter called Peachez Inc way back in January. He filed a lawsuit against the Dallas based concert promoter for breach of contract. No subsequent development from the case just yet.
