'Prince Caspian' Dethroned 'Iron Man' From Box Office Reign
Movie

Debuting with an estimated $56.6 million, the second Narnia adaptation tidbit became the summer movie that took down 'Iron Man' from its number one spot at the three-days weekend box office.

AceShowbiz - In the movie, Prince Caspian sets his eyes to stop the evil ruler of the Telmarines from destroying his beloved land and to claim his right for Narnia's throne. With the help of the previous legendary Narnia's rulers, the Pevensie siblings, it seems that the job will be a pretty easy one. However, in the box office, a not-so-easy task lays ahead. To land atop the revenue chart, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" has to face off with back-to-back topper "Iron Man". Still, the adventure movie managed to debut on top and forced the man suited in armor suit to pass up the box office crown.

Considered to be a better challenger to the Robert Downey Jr.-starrer action film than "Speed Racer", the Disney's sequel film to "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" proved to have a strong line of fanatics when it managed to end the domination of the Marvel Entertainment's superhero tidbit. The Andrew Adamson's family movie opened number one on the box office chart pulling in approximately $56.6 million from the 3,929 theaters it was screened. It scored around twenty million more than "Iron Man" which slipped to the second place in its third weekend grossing an estimated $31.2 million.

Though successful in taking over the top spot, "Prince Caspian" falls short in terms of matching the grand result attained by the first Narnia adaptation film. The film starring Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Anna Popplewell, Ben Barnes and William Moseley is not able to bring in as much as $65.5 million which was the exact number of ticket sales "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" collected in its opening weekend in early December 2005. Aside from that, the tidbit also landed second to "Iron Man" in the international sales with about $20.7 million.

Besides "Prince Caspian" and "Iron Man", other movies charting on the top five box office include "What Happens in Vegas...", "Speed Racer" and "Baby Mama". Staying strong at the third position was "Vegas". The film that pairs up Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher garnered in another $13.9 million to the total cume of about $40.3 million. Following the comedy movie in the fourth place was "Speed Racer" with about $7.6 million and in the fifth, "Baby Mama" added about $4.6 million to its four weeks total of $47.3 million.
