Release Date for Frank Miller's 'The Spirit' Pushed Forward

Set earlier to bow in theaters on January 16, 2009, the Will Eisner's newspaper strip adaptation movie by Frank Miller has been moved up to Christmas 2008.

Frank Miller's fans do not have to wait any longer to see the latest project from the creator of "" on the big screen as latest report concerning "" has come out with a great news. The action adventure film adapted from Will Eisner's newspaper strip of the same title will be heading to theaters across the country faster than its original plan.

On Tuesday, May 6, it was announced that the release date of the movie directed and scripted by Miller has been moved up from January 16, 2009 to December 25, 2008 by Lions Gate Films. With the new screening schedule, the film will now be up against Walt Disney Pictures' adventure comedy "Bedtime Story", which is starred by and , and Fox 2000 Pictures' comedy "" featuring and .

Apparently, the changing of release date has been affected by the reaction given by viewers at the New York Comic Con, which is held from held April 18 to April 20, 2008. On the matter, Lions Gate's president Tom Ortenberg explained, "Comic-Con fans (in New York in March) resoundingly confirmed what we felt in our bones about 'The Spirit': this is a great film and an irresistible piece of entertainment. ... For all of us, it was an easy decision."

Made using "Sin City" noir-like technique, "Spirit" picks up the story of a former rookie cop, Denny Colt, returning from dead as the Spirit. In a new mission to fight off criminals, one in particular his arch nemesis the Octopus, from the the shadows of Central City, Colt is faced with a band of beautiful women who have other missions in mind. The movie sees the likes of , , , , , , and as the impressive cast ensemble.
