As 'Speed Racer' is gearing up for its opening week in theaters, uplifting news about the follow-up to the live action film came from its producer, Joel Silver.

AceShowbiz - Though the forthcoming film "Speed Racer" has yet to be opened for the public view, the Wachowski brothers has allegedly been prepared for the sequel. The speculation of the issue has been brought up by one of the car racing film's producers, Joel Silver, in an interview.
At the press junket for "Racer" on Saturday, April 19, Silver opened up to Collider.com that the filmmakers behind the Warner Bros. Pictures' tidbit have jotted down ideas for a movie follow-up if it is possible. "Look, they have a great story idea for a sequel to this movie (Speed Racer), we have a great idea for a sequel if it makes sense to make it," revealed the "Matrix" series producer.
Aside from talking about "Racer", on the occasion, Silver also let out several things about his other project "Ninja Assassin" which will feature Korean multi-talented artist Rain. He stated that the film will start its production in early May and the yet-announced cast include actress Naomie Harris.
Further, Silver also hinted about possible "Assassin" sequel. "They have a great idea for a sequel to Ninja if they want to make it," he said "We're having a good time. I love working with them and it's a great joy to have them in my life. They're smart and funny and they love the kind of movies I love and they know how to make them like no one else. I look at this movie and can't believe we created it. I can't believe it exists."
Concerning "Racer" itself, the live-action movie stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox and Susan Sarandon. It follows the story of the titular character, Speed, who is born to race cars. Trying to save his family business from the pressure lays out by Royalton Industries' owner, he then teams up with his former-rival Racer X to make his Mach 5 the first car to cross the "The Crucible" finish line.
