Said to Be Starred by Denzel Washington, 'Matarese' Bought by MGM

Following reports that the 'Training Day' star is attached to the action thriller project entitled 'The Matarese Circle', it was reported that MGM has obtained the screen rights of the feature film.

AceShowbiz - Following earlier reports claiming that renowned actor Denzel Washington has been attached to star in "The Matarese Circle", it is now reported that the screening rights of the film project have been obtained by MGM. According to Variety, the studio have beaten out stiff competitions from others, including Universal Pictures.

A report coming from Hollywood Reporter stated that the confirmation about the securing of the deal by the studio reportedly came on Friday, April 4. MGM have also been said to win the deal along with Relativity Media. Thus, the two will be financing the project equally. Allegedly, the studio have to hand out an estimated $3 million for the book deal only with an additional of $2 million for the film's screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

Earlier, it has been reported that "Matarese" is a film adaptation of Robert Ludlum's novel. The film resolves around two conflicting secret agents who team up to bring down an international group of killers known as the Matarese. The film has been rumored to be the first of the movie version series since Ludlum has written the sequel book, which is entitled "The Matarese Countdown".
