AceShowbiz - Jerry Seinfeld was left unhurt in a frightening car wreck in the busy road of Hamptons last weekend after the brakes in the vintage Fiat he was driving suddenly failed. The actor-comedian was driving alone along Skimhampton Road in East Hampton when the brakes on his 1967 Fiat BTM stopped working at about 7:40 P.M. Saturday, March 29.

Seinfeld was on Skinhampton Road approaching Montauk Highway when he realized the brakes were not working, police said. He immediately tried the emergency parking brake, sending the car into a rollover.

"He attempted his brakes which failed forcing him to pull his emergency brake and cut the wheel to avoid traffic," according to police report. The Fiat, according to E! News, "rolled over onto its passenger side, then the roof, before coming to rest just several feet shy of the other vehicles at an intersection on the driver's side."

Seinfeld, who was wearing both a lap belt and chest restraint at the time the accident occurred, did not appear to be injured. "His actions probably avoided a serious accident," East Hampton police Chief Todd Sarris was quoted as saying, adding "I think he was a little shaken up, with justification."

Authorities declared the crash as a result of mechanical failure, and so no summonses were issued against Seinfeld who according to his wife, Jessica Seinfeld, walked away "without a scratch", being picked up by a friend and driven back home to his East Hampton estate.

A Golden Globe- and Emmy Award-winning comedian and actor, Seinfeld joked about the unfortunate, saying "Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do. It is not something I plan to make a habit of."
