AceShowbiz - The forthcoming family adventure film "Speed Racer" is heading to the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. ComingSoon reported that on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, Warner Bros. Pictures and the organizers of the film festival have let out announcement that the Wachowski brothers' film scheduled to bow in theaters on May 9 will be the closing film for the film festival.

According to United Press International, the special screening of the film starring Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci and Matthew Fox will be done on Saturday, May 3 at the Borough of Manhattan Community College Tribeca Performing Arts Center in Lower Manhattan, New York as well as at the Pace University Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts. The site further noted that some of the film's stars are expected to attend the previewing at the former venue.

About the choosing of the film itself to close the festival, the co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival Jane Rosenthal revealed, "Warner Bros. has been a big part of the festival many times over the years and we are thrilled that the Wachowskis and producer Joel Silver are bringing 'Speed Racer' to us this year to close the festival." Adding to Rosenthal's comment, Silver stated, "The Tribeca Film Festival is a defining event in New York's entertainment culture, so it is an honor to have 'Speed Racer' chosen as the festival's closing night screening."

The 2008 Tribeca Film Festival will be held from April 23 to May 4 in Manhattan, New York. It was founded back in 2002 by Rosenthal and actor Robert De Niro following the World Trade Center's attacks on September 11, 2001. This year, the festival will be opened with Tina Fey's comedy "Baby Mama".
