The 20th Century Fox's animated film about an elephant hearing a cry of help from a speck of dust still remained atop the domestic box office ended Sunday, March 23.

AceShowbiz - The 20th Century Fox's animation "Horton Hears a Who!" still reigned supreme on the North American weekend box office on its second week previewing. According to studio estimates on Sunday, March 23, the film featuring the voices of comedians Jim Carrey and Steve Carell has taken in approximately $24.6 million and became the first film of the year to stay on top for two weeks straight.

Despite experiencing a 45.4|percent| drop in sales if compared to last weekend, the film about an elephant who hears a cry of help from a speck of dust has pulled in the total of about $86 million. The Dr. Seuss' adapted movie also managed to stay on top though faced with new strong contenders, including Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns" and Owen Wilson's "Drillbit Taylor".

Following closely behind "Horton" was the highly anticipated "Browns" which garnered in an estimated $20 million. The drama comedy based on Perry's stage play became the talented playwright/director's fourth film to bring in $20 million or more in its opening week. Perry's three previous films, "Madea's Family Reunion", "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" and "Why Did I Get Married", had debuted with $30 million, $21.9 million and $21.3 million respectively.

Coming in the third place was another 20th Century Fox's film "Shutter". The horror thriller remake starring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor grabbed about $10.4 million which was a bit shy from the $12 million Jessica Alba's "The Eye" made earlier. Further, Paramount Pictures' comedy "Taylor" took the number four slot by raking in $10.3 million in its debut. Though didn't manage to bring "Horton" down from its crowned position, the three newcomers have pushed last week's runner-up "10,000 B.C." to the fifth position. Having a 46.7|percent| sales declining, the Roland Emmerich's epic drama adventure made about $8.9 million. On its third week screening on 3,454 domestic theaters, the Warner Bros' movie has banked up to $76.4 million.

The next two spots were filled by "Never Back Down" as well as "College Road Trip". The two different genres movies have each grossed about $4.8 million and $4.7 million respectively. Not far behind them was Lions Gate Film's crime thriller "The Bank Job" with about $4.2 million. The Jason Statham-starring film has garnered in total of about $19.5 million.

Slipping four slots to the ninth place was Pete Travis-directed drama thriller "Vantage Point". The film about the assassination of a U.S. president earned $3.8 million with the total cume of $65.3 million. Rounding up the top ten box office was "Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna)". Grossing about $2.8 million, the film marked the biggest debut for a Spanish-language film crushing the previous record made by "Ladron Que Roba a Ladron" in September 2007.
