Patrick Swayze Battling Pancreatic Cancer

Patrick Swayze, best known for his breakthrough role in the 1990 film "Ghost," has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a rep for the actor has confirmed.

It is sad to report that , who starred in "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost," has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Report on that matter has been confirmed by the actor's representative who furthermore claimed that the actor's upcoming cable pilot "The Beast" will still in contention to become a series with Swayze himself hopes to continue to be part of the show despite the bad news.

Report on Swayze battling pancreatic cancer was first brought to public attention by the National Enquirer. It is claimed that Swayze has been undergoing treatment at the Stanford University Medical Center. The news outlet, moreover, reported the cancer has spread and the actor has been told to prepare for the worst. His condition was so severe and worse he only had five weeks to live.

Swayze's representative has quashed the rumors though, insisted Swayze's condition wasn't that worse.

Set the record straight on Swayze's condition, his representative issued a statement Wednesday, March 5, saying "Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Still according to the statement, Swayze's physician Dr. George Fisher said that "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

Swayze, 55, started his career as a dancer before turning to acting. His breakout role was as a Catskills dance instructor opposite in 1987's sleeper hit "Dirty Dancing." He also starred opposite in the 1990 blockbuster "Ghost."
