Proving the critics wrong that it didn't only depend on its special effect, the adventure drama film starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson became the champion on the domestic box office.

AceShowbiz - Criticized for being depending only on special effects, the sci-fi adventure "Jumper" proved otherwise as the film starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson jumped to the top of the domestic box office chart. At the end of this three-days weekend which ended on Sunday, February 17, the film pulled in $27.4 million and has grossed $34 million since its debut on Thursday, February 14.

On getting a head start by releasing the globe-trotting thriller on the Valentine's Day, the distribution executive of the 20th Century Fox, Bert Livingston reasoned, "Valentine's Day has become a great movie-going day." He further explained, "Even though kids are not out of school and people are working, it's still a holiday in the sense that in the evening, men take their wives, or girlfriends and boyfriends go out. Everybody goes to the movies."

This weekend, the top five spots of the North American Box Office have been dominated by newly released films. The solely non-this-week-debuting film nailing the top five was last week champion "Fool's Gold". The treasure hunters' film starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey fell to number four slot with $13 million.

The runner-up position went to the family fantasy "The Spiderwick Chronicles" which garnered $19 million on the weekend. Meanwhile, the sequel of dancing drama "Step Up 2 the Streets" and romantic comedy "Definitely, Maybe" premiered on the third and fifth position respectively. The John Chu-directed "Streets" brought in $19 million, while "Maybe" raised $9.8 million.

The following five places saw familiar films from last weekend's list. Last week's runner-up "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins" dropped four slots to the sixth position with $8.5 million, whereas teenage drama comedy "Juno" still managed to be in the top ten in its eleventh week by landing the seventh position with $4.6 million.

Grossing $4 million in its eighth week of screening gave "The Bucket List" the number eight spot. Further, with the sales declining 68|percent| from last week, the 3-D concert movie of the singing sensation Miley Cyrus "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" slipped to the ninth place and pulled in only $3.3 million. Rounding up the top ten was Katherine Heigl's bridesmaid comedy drama "27 Dresses" with $3.2 million.
