Nominated only for four categories at the 35th Annual Evening Standard British Film Awards, the Anton Corbijn-directed film managed to steal the best film prize from the strong contender 'Atonement'.

AceShowbiz - The drama biopic "Control" has pushed aside the domination of Joe Wright's "Atonement" at the 2007 Evening Standard British Film Awards. On a ceremony held Sunday, February 3, at The Ivy restaurant in central London, the biopic chronicling the tragic life of Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis was named the Best Film besting "Atonement", "Blue Blood", "Hallam Foe" and "It's a Free World...".
Aside from winning the top prize of the night, the Anton Corbijn-directed film has also brought home Best Screenplay kudo for its writer Matt Greenhalgh. The success of "Control" in garnering double awards was followed by film critics' favorite "There Will Be Blood" which nailed Best Actor for its star Daniel Day-Lewis and Best Film Score for Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.
Further, disappointment came from "Atonement". The Keira Knightley-starring film which was nominated for seven awards only managed to get one recognition in the Technical Achievement. The kudo given to the film under the category was awarded to cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, production designer Sarah Greenwood and costume designer Jacqueline Durran.
The British awards event also named Helena Bonham Carter as Best Actress for her performance as the sympathetic cook who resourcefully turns all those corpses slung out by her upstairs neighbor into fresh meat for her ailing pie shop, Mrs Lovett, in "Sweeney Todd". Additionally, the one of the most important British film awards gave out special award for "Away From Her" star Julie Christie for her contribution to film industry.
