As the appointed director Philip Noyce has dropped out from 'The Story of Amelia Earhart', Mira Nair has been signed to direct the biopic about the famous aviator pioneer.

AceShowbiz - When director Philip Noyce dropped his involvement from the biopic project of the famous American aviation pioneer, Amelia Earhart, before Christmas 2007, the fate of "The Story of Amelia Earhart" was in jeopardy. However, Moviehole.net has reported that the film has found a new director to bring the project to life in "Vanity Fair" helmer Mira Nair.
If the Indian director is indeed onboard the project, she is going to work with the two-time Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank who has been signed to star as the renowned aviatrix. Despite the hiring of Nair, there is no word about when the production will be started, but the film is scheduled to be released in 2009.
Earhart is the acclaimed aviator pioneer as well as famed author and women's rights advocate. She wrote best selling books and help to establish an organization for women pilots 'The Ninety-Nines'. She was also the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross for being the first woman 'aviatrix' to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, but she is more known for her disappearance over the Pacific Ocean while attempting a circumnavigational flight across the globe in 1937.
Aside from directing "Fair" which starred by another Academy Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, Nair's directorial projects include "Monsoon Wedding", "The Namesake" and "Migration". She currently involves in the 12-director-film project of "New York, I Love You", whereas her project "Shantaram" starring Johnny Depp has been on hold due to the writers' strike.
