Shrek Goes to Broadway!

Becoming the most successful animated series films, the original 'Shrek' will be brought to Broadway and is scheduled to be previewed in early November.

AceShowbiz - While "Shrek Goes Fourth", the fourth installment of DreamWorks' hit animated film series, is said to be underway, it was announced that the original "Shrek" will move from a land not so far, far away to Broadway. On Thursday, January 17, DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, Ltd announced that the successful comedy animation will begin its musical journey in an exclusive world premiere engagement at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, August 14 to September 21.

Entitled "Shrek the Musical", the musical version of the animated film is based on the story and characters from William Steig's book "Shrek!" as well as the DreamWorks Animation first film "Shrek" which hit the theaters in summer 2001. It will have Jason Moore, who staged the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, "Avenue Q", as its director and other awards-winning crews, while casting and additional members of the creative team will be announced shortly.

Following the premiere, the official Broadway performance will be open in early November at a yet unspecified theater. In the meantime, the first "Shrek" featuring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz has become the first-ever Academy Award-winning Best Animated Feature. Its 2004 sequel, "Shrek 2", remains the third highest grossing movie of all time and highest grossing animated film of all time. Following the success of the sequel, "Shrek the Third" became the second highest grossing film of 2007, while "Shrek the Halls", an ABC television special, was one of the most watched TV programs of 2007.
