Rumored that its release date is going to be changed earlier, the Brendan Fraser-starring family fantasy movie has officially been delayed until January 2009.

AceShowbiz - "Inkheart" won't be released to theaters this year. According to Variety, the release date of the family fantasy movie distributed by New Line Cinema has been pushed back from 2008 to January 2009. It was said that the delaying of the release date was taken partly due to marketing worries.

Prior to the pushing back to 2009, reportedly the studio has considered to release the Brendan Fraser-starring film in the fall, but the idea then was dropped because by then the "Crash" actor has already appeared in two movies in the summer. Fraser's two films, "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D" and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" will hit theaters on July 11 and August 1 respectively.

Aside from delaying "Inkheart", New Line also pushed back the release of their cop drama "Pride and Glory" starring Edward Norton and Colin Farrell from March 14 to 2009 citing that the film's two actors are also having other projects coming up. Norton's "The Incredible Hulk" is scheduled for release on June 13, while Farrell's two films, "Cassandra's Dream" and "In Bruges", hit theaters in respective orders on January 18 and on February 8.

Despite moving the release schedules, New Line still has nine other films to be released this year. Meanwhile, last year, the studio released its recent family fantasy film, "The Golden Compass", only to meet disappointment at the domestic box office since it only earned $67.7 million up to today. Still, the movie starring Nicole Kidman became a hit overseas garnering $245.7 million.

On the related news, Universal Pictures will move up the release of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" starring Jason Segel, Jonah Hill and Kristen Bell from May 30 to April 18 so that it won't have to be up against the 20th Century Fox's "Starship Dave" and New Line's "Sex and the City". Because of the change of the schedule, the release of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler comedy "Baby Mama" has to be moved from April 18 to April 25.
