Won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy 2008 Golden Globe Award for his portrayal as the murderous barber in "Sweeney Todd" apparently puts Johnny Depp in his best giving mood ever that he willingly makes a huge money donation to children's hospital.
The actor was reported to have paid a secret visit to London's Great Ormond Street Children's hospital on Sunday, January 13 and donated $2 million of his own money to thank staff for saving the life of his young daughter, Lily-Rose Melody Depp.
Lily-Rose was admitted to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital late February last year due to an E. coli bacteria infection that began to cause her kidneys to shut down and resulted in an extended hospital stay. She was discharged from the hospital later the following month.
"It was the most frightening thing we have ever been through. It was hell," Depp said about her daughter's hospitalization at that time. "But the magic is that she pulled through beautifully. Great Ormond Street was terrific, a great hospital."
In addition to the $2 million donation, Depp also invited five Great Ormond Street doctors and nurses to the party for the London premiere of his film "Sweeney Todd" last week. That's not all, the actor had on November 29 secretly spent four hours at the hospital telling bedtime stories to patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after having his Pirates Of The Caribbean costume flown over from Los Angeles.
Depp and his longtime girlfriend, French singer Vanessa Paradis, first met while filming "The Ninth Gate" (1999). Besides Lily-Rose, they also have one son together named John "Jack" Christopher Depp III.
