Ending the reign of 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' on the Box Office weekend, the drama comedy starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman landed the top spot at the three-days weekend box office

AceShowbiz - "The Bucket List" kicked "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" out from the top spot on the Box Office weekend ended Sunday, January 13. Based on the preliminary estimates, the Warner Bros.' comedy drama film won the three-days weekend North American Box Office in its first weekend in wide release grossing an incredible $19.4 million.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film, in which Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman play two terminally ill men living their last days to the fullest, has earned $6.4 million on Friday, January 11, only. Earlier, the distribution executive of Warners, Dan Fellman, had credited the two Academy Award-winners for the bringing life to the picture stating, "Everyone wanted to see these two actors together in one movie. It's well-positioned heading into the holiday weekend and will start to play a little younger as it goes."
Further, despite nailing the lead position on the Box Office, the Rob Reiner directed-film should watch out for its back since a newcomer "First Sunday" followed closely at No. 2 with $17.7 million. In the meantime, though losing up its second place to the Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan starrer-film, the teen pregnancy drama "Juno" was still holding strong on the top three, earning $13.6 million. With the total sales of $70.9 million, the drama comedy film starring Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman becomes the most commercially successful film among the awards-season favorites.
The last week box office champion, "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" experienced a free fall down to the fourth place. In its fourth week previewing, the action adventure film garnered a domestic gross of $11.3 million with the total earning of $187.1 million. Moreover, the fifth position was filled by "Alvin and the Chipmunks" once again beating out "I Am Legend" that placed sixth this week. The two competitive films scored $9.3 million and $8.2 million respectively.
Dropping two slots to the No.7 place was "One Missed Call" that managed to produce as much as $5.98 million, whereas Hillary Swank's drama comedy "P.S., I Love You" followed in the eighth position with $4.8 million. Another newcomer "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie" followed behind "P.S." gathering merely $4.3 million dollar and rounding up the top ten for the second time consecutively was "Atonement" grossing $4.2 million.
